Heka & Magick

This blog will provide a comprehensive overview of ancient Egyptian religion and magic. We will carefully investigate the Egyptian pantheon as well as the cosmology, cosmogony, personal religion, Egyptian magic, rituals, funerary beliefs, and concepts of the self throughout ancient Egyptian history. We will analyze artistic and archaeological evidence, such as pyramids, mummies, sarcophagi, temple and tomb architecture and decoration, and statues of the gods and goddesses in an attempt to understand the complex and fascinating religious beliefs and practice of the ancient Egyptians through material culture and textual evidence.

We titled this blog "Heka & Magick", because this will be the main subject of this blog. Heka was seen as a gift from the sun god Re to mankind , a manifestation of his creative energy as an embodiment of his Ba. It empowered man to create using words and actions, mirroring the sun god's creation of the universe.

Heka can be seen as the creative force or life-giving energy connecting the objects, links and symbols of life with the universe, like a subtle tapestry of energy, which the magician must learn to read if s/he wants to work effectively with magic. Heka is also the inherent magical energy found within living beings.
